FORMATIONS OF THE COMMISSIONERATE

(A) CUSTOMS STATIONS AT LUDHIANA
Ludhiana city was founded in the times of Lodhi dynasty which ruled in India from 1451-1526 AD. Town was originally known as Lodhi- ana, which means town of Lodhies. The name later changed to the present name Ludhiana. It is industrial hub of Punjab also called Manchester of Punjab. The riches are brought mostly by small-scale industrial units, which produce industrial goods, machine parts, auto parts, household appliances, hosiery, apparel, and garments. Ludhiana is Asia's largest hub for bicycle manufacturing. Ludhiana produces 60% of India's tractor parts and a large portion of auto and two-wheeler parts. Many parts used in German cars like BMW and Mercedes are exclusively produced in Ludhiana to satisfy the world requirement. It is one of the largest manufacturers of sewing machines. Hand tools and precision industrial equipment is another speciality. The apparel industry Ludhiana is famous all over India for its woollen sweaters and cotton T-shirts; most of the top Indian woollen apparel brands are based in Ludhiana. (B) CUSTOMS STATIONS AT OTHER LOCATIONS
(i) ICD Dappar
CFS Dappar is located at Dappar near Derabassi at Chandigarh-Ambala Road in Patiala district of Punjab. Import and export at this CFS has not taken place Since March, 2016.
(ii) CFS Bathinda
CFS Bathinda is located at Bathinda, Punjab. Import and export at the CFS is not taking place for last many years.
(iii) ICD Jalandhar ( EDI code INJUC6)
It is located at Jalandhar city; major items of export are hand tools and articles of iron and steel. There is no import at this station.
(iv) ICD Baddi (EDI Code INBDI6)
It is located near Chandigarh in Himachal Pradesh. It was notified on 15.10.14. The major Import item is Plastic Caps (Chapter 39); export items are Yarn, Pharmaceutical products, Tractor tyres and Mixer Grinders.
(v) Sub-Foreign Post Office, Ludhiana
The Sub-Foreign Post Office is located in the premises of General Post Office Ludhiana and the customs staff is posted there on rotation basis. Only export parcels are examined here and items exported are in small quantities of herbs as well as allopathic medicines and gifts. The customs officer examines the parcels before their final dispatch by the post office. No equipment/scanning facilities have been provided at the post office.
(vi) LCS Shipkila, (H.P.)
Shipki La, a mountain pass and border post on the Republic of India-People’s Republic of China border, is located at 13300 feet above sea level is in Kinnaur Dist. of Himachal Pradesh.This LCS is one of the three LCSs on Indo-China border in the Himalayas region authorised under section 7(1) (b) of Customs Act, 1962 vide Notification No. 63/94 dated 21.11.1994 as amended. Trade takes place through this LCS on barter syetm and land route is between India and Shipki Jui Jauba in China. Namgia is the last inhabited tribal village on Indian side and Shipki-La which is at the border. Major commodities of import are gur, misri, spices, rice, textiles and major export items are china clay, carpets etc.
(vii) CPS Kullu (H.P.)
CPS Kullu is located at Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh and looks after the Customs preventive functions in the region of Indo-China Border in Himachal Pradesh.
